Choosing the right laptop
Start with what you'll do on it, then set a budget. Everything else follows from those two answers.
For assignments, research, Zoom classes and Microsoft Office, you don't need an expensive machine. Look for an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor, at least 8GB of RAM and an SSD of 256GB or more. A tested UK used business laptop such as a Lenovo ThinkPad T480, HP EliteBook 840 G6 or Dell Latitude 7490 gives you excellent build quality and keyboards for far less than a new consumer laptop. If you study engineering, architecture or computer science, go for 16GB of RAM so software like AutoCAD, MATLAB or coding tools run smoothly.
New vs UK used
UK used laptops are one of the best-value buys in Nigeria, as long as you buy tested machines from a shop you can walk back into.
UK used laptops are pre-owned machines, usually business laptops retired by companies, schools or government offices abroad and imported into Nigeria. Because they were built for business use, they are often tougher than new budget laptops. The condition varies from unit to unit, which is why testing and honest grading matter.
Genuine products and warranty
Fake and refurbished-as-new products exist in the market. Here's how to protect yourself.
Check the serial number or service tag on the manufacturer's official website. It should show the exact model and, for new items, whether warranty is active. Use Dell Support (dell.com/support) with the service tag, HP (support.hp.com/checkwarranty), Lenovo PC Support (pcsupport.lenovo.com) or Apple Check Coverage (checkcoverage.apple.com). The details should match the box and the machine. We're happy to check it with you in store.
Power and internet
In Nigeria, a great laptop still needs reliable power and a stable connection.
Sudden outages can corrupt files, and surges when power returns can damage chargers and motherboards. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) gives you minutes of backup to save your work and shut down safely, and protects against surges. A 650VA UPS suits a desktop and router, while 1200VA and above handles more equipment. For hours of backup, you need an inverter or solar system; a UPS is not designed for long outages. Laptops have built-in batteries, but a surge protector for the charger is still worthwhile.
Phones and tablets

Under ₦200,000, phones like the Samsung Galaxy A15 or Infinix Hot series give you a big screen and long battery life. Between ₦250,000 and ₦550,000, the Tecno Camon, Redmi Note and Samsung Galaxy A55 add better cameras, faster charging and smoother screens. Above that, iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S flagships give the best cameras, performance and years of software updates.

Repairs and upgrades
Our technicians fix problems at component level, which is often much cheaper than replacing parts.
Usually, yes. Dust and dried thermal paste make laptops overheat and slow themselves down. Thermal repasting and a full fan clean often bring temperatures down dramatically and restore performance, usually the same day. Adding RAM or replacing an old hard drive with an SSD can also make an older laptop feel new.
